The Fire Authority

Introduction

The Fire Authority is funded partly by the Government, consisting of Revenue Support Grant and National Non-Domestic Rates, and partly by the local tax payer in the form of Council Tax.

The Authority is responsible for the Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service. The Fire Authority is a separate entity and is responsible for setting the level of revenue funding and the costs incurred in running a ‘front line service’. It operates within a legal framework, which is heavily influenced by Central Government.

Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service is accountable to the Fire Authority, which sets out rigorous guidelines. In order to enable the business of the Fire Authority to be carried out, meetings are held throughout the year and reports are produced by the Chief Fire Officer, Monitoring Officer and Treasurer.

Members

Derbyshire Fire Authority consists of 20 councillors; 15 are from Derbyshire County Council and 5 are from Derby City Council.
