Information & Communication Technology

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service makes extensive use of ICT to support its service delivery.
All departments and fire stations are connected to a wide area network for the sharing of data. Email facilities exist throughout the service whilst key information is published on an intranet for universal dissemination.
A number of key applications are also in existence to further increase the efficiency of the service including a Management Information System with key data relating to all reported incidents providing the facility to analyse the performance of the service in its front line role.
There are moves afoot to incorporate this key information into a comprehensive GIS based Community Risk Intelligence System for the more precise targeting of resources, amongst other things.
The Command and Control System which provides for the essential mobilising function of the service is due for renewal in 2005 and work is ongoing towards devising a new radio/mobilising system which will meet the requirements of the service and comply with government legislation.
Latterly a mobile data system has been introduced into the service with features including chemical data, fire safety plans, and geographical information providing key information in the front line in the appliances.
Following government initiatives the service has embarked upon an e-government strategy which will further develop the IT infrastructure of the service and provide for the comprehensive dissemination of information from the service to the general public and vice versa.
A small team within Derbyshire Fire & Rescue service supports the ICT infrastructure.
