Performance Management is based in Alfreton, Derby.

The section is responsible for the provision of statistical and legislative information. This enables Performance Management to provide support for senior management in any areas that are deemed necessary and appropriate for continual improvement of service delivery.
To ensure that the overall purpose of the Authority is met, the section is instrumental in the monitoring of the key issues and reporting on their progress.
It is responsible for Best Value, this includes:
-
Production of the Best Value Performance Plan (which together with the 3 year Corporate Plan forms part of the Comprehensive Performance Plan)
-
Compilation of the Best Value Performance Indicators in conjunction with the Performance Management system
-
Facilitation of Best Value Reviews
Best Value Reviews - in 2002 a review of Human Resources took place, this was undertaken by an external consultant. Reviews planned for 2003/04 are Special Services Charges, Service Level Agreements and Training, these will be facilitated by the section.
All members of the section contribute to the collation of information and production of the Comprehensive Performance Plan. This plan consists of the 3 year Corporate Plan together with the annual Best Value Performance Plan.
A Performance Management System is controlled from within the section, this measures performance right down to the level of service delivery. This allows for resources to be targeted where they are most needed within the organisation, thus ensuring the process of continuous improvement.
The section is the contact for consultation services, a member of Performance Management participates in the Fire Information Research and Evaluation Services (FIRES) which is a national consultation group. FIRES was set up to provide cost effective public, stakeholder, member and employee consultation services. The success of the organisation has led to 49 Fire Services now being members, this has enabled like for like comparisons to be made with benchmarking organisations.
The Service library is also maintained by the section.
