Heanor Gate Fire

Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service were called to a fire at Heanor Gate Science College in Heanor at 5:38am today, 23 February.

At the height of the blaze some 50 firefighters were in attendance with appliances from Ripley, Alfreton (2), Crich, Belper, Heanor, Nottingham Road, Derby and an appliance from Eastwood in Nottingham, together with a water carrier from Ilkeston, the Command Unit from Ripley, the Welfare Unit from Belper and an aerial ladder platform from Kingsway in Derby.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, a classroom block measuring 100m x 50m was well alight. Firefighters were able to prevent the fire from progressing to the main school building.

Police were in attendance providing traffic management.

A stop message was received at 9:03 am. At 2:20pm damping down was still in progress with one appliance from Alfreton still in attendance.

 

Update Wednesday 24 February

Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service have now concluded the investigation into the cause of the fire at Heanor Gate Scientific College. The most probable cause is electrical and the team are happy to confirm that the fire was not caused deliberately.
